Eddie advises that it is not beneficial to have a deep tissue massage a day or two before a big competition. This is because the muscles are being worked out hard during the massage and this may result in decreased performance, as the muscles need time to recover. To get maximum benefit from deep tissue sports massage it is best to get it approximately a week before a big event as you wind down your training. Deep tissue work performed after a big event may also improve recovery.
